A note from the President…
I am excited about the opportunity to serve as President of the Highland Village Women’s Club for the 2011-2012 club year. HVWC is comprised of an amazing group of women and I am looking forward to a terrific year of meeting new friends, serving our community and having lots of fun doing it!
If you have not yet joined HVWC, we would love to see you at our next meeting. Please explore our website and learn more about HVWC and the valuable contributions we make to our community.
Our meetings are held on the first Wednesday evening of the month.
Hope to see you soon,
Donna Reekie, President, dreekie@verizon.net
A note from someone who joined in 2010…
The club meets monthly September through May. Each month we have a different program that is planned by the board of directors. As a new member to the club last year, I had a chance to reconnect with old friends that I had met through the Highland Shores Homeowner Association Tennis league, and to meet many wonderful professional and retired people. What amazed me most was their energy and desire to give back to the community, to help neighbors and organizations that serve our beautiful city on the shores of Lake Lewisville.
Whether you join as a new resident to Highland Village, or as an old-timer wishing to volunteer in our neighborhood, you are sure to meet friends. Having the common goal of service to our neighborhood unites us all.
The highlight of the year for me, and I suppose for many of the club members, was putting together Village Glows. Village Glows takes place the first Tuesday in December at the Shops of Highland Village. The Christmas tree is lit, children visit Santa, school children from Highland Village and neighboring towns sing for us. Many people purchase hot cocoa and kids decorate cookies and walk around visiting many of their neighbors and friends.
We also sell poinsetta plants. That is the one “required” fund raiser for all members.
Other programs are educational. All are enjoyable.
At the end of the year, our club made donations to the Children’s Advocacy Center, Studio B Performing Arts, and many other organizations.
Be sure to check out our other pages to find out more information about our goals, history, Village Glows, and officers. You are welcome to join our club!
